About

What Makes BackCountry CrossFit Different?

One thing that we feel is extremely important to be successful coaches is that you need to put the time into your trade. Getting a Level 1 Certification is only the start…anyone can get the cert, not everyone can coach. We spent the next couple years training, learning and coaching. Also, due to our travel we have visited well over 100 other CrossFit Boxes across the country to gain knowledge, experience and best practices. Six months before we opened our doors to the community, we trained a small group of individuals at no cost in our garage to practice our programming and further sharpen our coaching skills. After 3 1/2 years of coaching CrossFit for other boxes and training out of our garage; we decided that it was time to open our own facility in 2011.

It takes time and experience to become a great CrossFit Coach. You have to know the proper ways to get people to move correctly, when to scale or modify a move/weight, how to read athletes and most importantly keep everyone safe.

We are a 13,500 Square Foot dedicated CrossFit Facility in the Heart of Highlands Ranch, Colorado. We are located at 8990 Barrons Blvd #102. Our facility offers: Showers, multiple restrooms, children area, full inventory of proteins and supplements, lounge area and much more…

We have 4 large Rogue pull-up stations, 19 Concept II Rowers, 50 olympic bars, 70 kettlebells, 80 medicine balls, 63 slam balls, 45 plyo boxes, 40 sets of rings, 6000 pounds of bumper plates, 9 Climbing Ropes and much more! Our goal is to make sure an athlete always has their own equipment and enough space to be able to do the WODs at the same time with no waits and plenty of room for safety.

BackCountry CrossFit is a local, family owned strength and conditioning facility that develops individuals of all levels of fitness through constantly varied functional movements preformed at high intensity. The workouts are fun, fast-paced and designed to provide maximum results under the supervision of our 7 Full-Time and 5 part-time CrossFit certified coaches. Our training methods produce undisputed, tangible results for all levels of fitness; from seniors and children to professional athletes (we have trained NFL, NHL, MLB athletes) and everything in between.

What is CrossFit?

CrossFit at BackCountry CrossFit Efficiently combines the most effective training methods of Endurance, Weightlifting, Gymnastics, and High Intensity Cardio. There isn’t a strength and conditioning program anywhere that works with a greater diversity of tools, modalities, and drills. We train incredibly hard; harder than most thought they were capable of…everyday our athletes break down barriers and set new standards for themselves. Our training is intense, and it creates a bond among members that can’t be manufactured. Together we sweat, we expose weaknesses and we get stronger. The community aspect of CrossFit is our greatest strength. At BackCountry there are no egos, no room for bad attitudes. Those types of people just don’t last here. We are supportive, we are competitive, we are strong, we are humble, we are athletes…we are BackCountry.

Our Coaches

Rules

Be On Time

CrossFit incorporates a lot of technical movements, so it’s important that you’re on time to participate in the warm-up movements to ensure your body is ready for the specific Workout of the Day. You’re always welcome to arrive 15-20mins early and do your own preparation or work on a specific mobility.

Let Coaches Coach

We love our team environment and community atmosphere where member’s look out for each other. While support is great, giving technical advice and coaching is not. We have experienced coaches who know what they are talking about and it’s their job to inform, instruct and coach technique.

Leave Your Ego at the Door

Many people enter the gym with predisposed ideas of what weights they should be lifting or try to match somebody else. Our aim is to ensure you’re perfecting the movement first, and then increase the intensity. We ask all members to respect our judgment – we are not trying to hold you back, we just want you to progress in the most safe and efficient way.

Never Cheat

There is no honor in cheating. What Joy can be in a victory you did not earn?

Support Other Members

The best sessions are when everyone supports one another. It’s amazing how well people respond when another member is encouraging them when they need it most. We train as individuals but workout as a team.

If You Don’t Know, Ask

This is especially important for any new members. If there is something you are unsure about, then please ask, no matter how silly you think the question is. We would much rather you ask, so we can address any issues and not risk any injury.

Have Fun

While we do take our training seriously, we want everyone to have some fun in the process. We enjoy a laugh as much as you, and we encourage a bit of banter, especially during warm-up and cool-down periods.

Don’t Put Down, Put Away

Our members view BackCountry CrossFit as their own gym, and treat it as such. That means putting any equipment back after use, wiping down their sweat and cleaning their chalk marks.

Injuries

Everyone gets a little niggle at some point, so if you do have an injury we want to know about it, however minor it may seem. That way we can help design a specific rehab program, or refer you to the relevant health professional. It also allows us to adjust your session so that we’re not putting additional strain on your injury.

Respect Our Equipment

Never drop, throw or slam empty bars, kettlebells, or dumbbells to the ground.

Respect Other Members

It is ok to express yourself during a hard workout. Feel free to grunt, yell, swear, and celebrate. At the same time remember that there can be such a thing as too loud, angry, gross, or rude.

Be Responsible For Your Own Fitness

Scaling back a workout when necessary is intelligent, not weak. You can not get fitter by staring at a bar that is too heavy.

NEVER QUIT

Give your best at every workout. Everyone’s best is different: show up, work hard and have fun!!

Be a TYPE I Athlete

  • Fully commit to whatever the WOD is for them for that day
  • Complete an extra couple of double-unders, pull-ups or wall balls when they have lost count or think they may have missed a couple of full reps.
  • Work up to the buzzer, even if it means they will only get 20 meters of the next 200 m run because there is only 10 seconds left.
  • Never ever would consider lying, not even 1 single rep when the coach asks “how many did you get” before writing the score on the whiteboard.
  • Ask their coach to closely judge them, give them pointers and makes necessary adjustments when given a ‘no rep’ call for not getting full depth on a squat.

Platforms

Platforms are open all day for Strength and Olympic Lifting only. Not WODs.
